10 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed
9. Snow White
Recent years seem to indicate that even the most mainstream of audiences have grown a bit tired of Disney's glut of live-action remakes, yet an adaptation of Snow White - one of their most beloved animated tales ever - should be a slam dunk, right?
Except, being a product that exists in our complicated present, Snow White actually represents something of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation for the House of Mouse. Principal photography wrapped, seemingly without incident, in July 2022, yet even before a single frame of the film was shot, the project courted controversy, and has faced an uphill PR struggle ever since.
Predictably there were those unhappy that the part-Colombian Rachel Zegler was cast to play Snow White - a character described as having skin "as white as snow" - while Zegler's outspoken comments about the original animation also caused the usual suspects to call the new film "too woke."
And then there's the whole dwarfs situation.
After Peter Dinklage criticised the original story, Disney responded that they were "taking a different approach" with the characters, and when leaked set photos showed predominantly non-dwarf actors standing in for the dwarfs, many came to believe that they had been entirely reimagined.
When the first official image from the film was released this past October, however, it showed that the dwarfs were now CGI-created beings reminiscent of their animated counterparts. The "uncanny" VFX of the dwarfs proved wildly divisive with fans, though, causing many to question Disney's wisdom in going this route over just giving the jobs to seven actual little people.
Either way, there's so much controversy swirling around this movie that all sides of the argument are sure to be absolutely exhausted by Snow White long before its March 21, 2025 release date.
Don't be shocked if this is another outright flop for Disney.
