10 Absolute WORST Wrestling Moments Of 2023
9. Adam Cole & Chris Jericho Almost Kill The Town
"Almost" because nothing can kill the 24/7 magic of Las Vegas, though AEW tried when they booked Chris Jericho and Adam Cole to go almost 20 minutes in an Unsanctioned Match that peaked when the 58-year-old Sabu put some JAS goons through tables in the opening seconds.
Double Or Nothing 2023 is typically considered amongst the very weakest of the company's pay-per-views, with a series of gimmick matches doing more to dilute each other than pay off the various storylines feeding into the show.
Cole/Jericho was both a victim of the excess and the primary reason for the disdain. A supposed blood feud descended into parody as the contest become a tonal nightmare and a protracted and unconvincing mess. Easily the worst singles match of either man's pay-per-view career within AEW, it could also realistically be extended to their work beyond the company too.
Ahead of his programme with MJF, Adam Cole's summer was looking in disarray. Jericho, meanwhile, required yet another rethink to pull him back from the brink.
