10 Deleted Star Wars Scenes That Should Have Been Left In

The scenes that never should have left.

When it comes to making a big budget film, there are plenty of things that are likely to get left on the cutting room floor.

Usually, such editorial changes are made to keep the pace of the movie afloat, remove redundant character interactions and keep the film to a watchable length.

Thankfully, most of the time it seems to pay off quite well. When done right, such scene cuts can lead to a film being the very best version of itself. Nothing seems out of place, nothing seems to be lacking.

However, every now and again, the ball is dropped, and as successful, beloved, and masterful it is, the Star Wars franchise is no exception to this rule. As this list will demonstrate, plenty of brilliant, would-be amazing scenes have been cut from the series when really they should have been left alone.

Whether a quiet character moment, a reference to past films, a more satisfying end to an iconic villain or a brief moment which would have made subsequent scenes all the more effective, here are 10 deleted scenes from the Star Wars films that should really have been left in.

10. Anakin Vs Greedo - The Phantom Menace

Greedo may not have been around for long in A New Hope (1977), but he made a striking impact on pop culture thanks to his death at the hands of Han Solo (Harrison Ford).

In the Phantom Menace (1999), the first of the divisive Prequel Trilogy, Greedo made a brief and eventually cut appearance on Tatooine, where the future bounty hunter gets himself in a tussle with a young Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd).

In the scene, Greedo and Anakin can be seen fighting following Anakin's major win at the pod race. The fight is broken up by Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson), who learns that Greedo thinks Anakin cheated. Qui-Gon tells Anakin to let Greedo have his opinion, and let the confrontation go.

Not only would the scene have shown that Anakin had a violent streak, but it also gives a brief bit of backstory to a pop culture icon, whilst also throwing up some foreshadowing of his eventual demise.
