UFC On ESPN: Kattar Vs. Ige Predictions
5. Tim Elliott Vs. Ryan Benoit
After his fantastic run on the ultimate fighter, culminating in a failed title bid opposite Demetrius Johnson, Tim Elliott has hit a slump and currently finds himself on the tail end of a three-fight losing streak.
Tim has just had the bad luck of running into the absolute killers in his division. He got ran through by Figueiredo, the man who should be champion, and then came up short against undefeated contender Askar Askarov. His last fight was a thrilling back-and-forth encounter against Brandon Royval where he just simply got outplayed.
Ryan Benoit has been inconsistent In the Octagon, trading wins and losses throughout his entire tenure. Benoit is a special Flyweight in that he has power with eight of his ten wins coming via strikes. He's often won stand-up exchanges but struggles to stay on his feet long enough to gain the judge's scorecards.
The bottom line is this is a must-win scenario for Elliot; if he fails here then it's very unlikely he’ll keep his place in the UFC.
Benoit’s downfall has always been when he is controlled on the floor for long durations of the fight and this is where Elliott excels. Tim has faced better competition, has the chin to take Benoit's shots and he’ll be more determined than ever to save his job.
Prediction: Elliott Via Submission
