Top WWE Star Doesn't Think CM Punk Will Last 6 Months
One major WWE player isn't confident of CM Punk lasting long...
CM Punk-related enthusiasm is high in wrestling circles following the 45-year-old's sensational WWE return at Survivor Series 2023, but one major star isn't confident Punk will be around for the long haul.
Per Dave Meltzer in the 4 December edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE wants to run Punk vs. Roman Reigns eventually, but will likely take its time in getting there. The feeling within the market-leading promotion is that it'll be a gigantic program, though they don't plan on rushing to it.
One big-time WWE player may see this as a risky strategy, however. Per Meltzer, a "major WWE star" claimed that the company "better get there within six months", due to the various risks associated with Punk (including injuries and other uncertainties).
AEW fired Punk with cause in early September, doing so following his backstage fight with Jack Perry at All In. In September 2022, 'The Voice of the Voiceless' was suspended indefinitely for brawling with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks after All Out.
Meltzer writes that Punk knows WWE presents a different dynamic. He won't have the same degree of power in WWE, which may take something like Punk going into business for himself once, but would hand out repercussions.
