Having teased us with Spider-Man: Home-Wrecker, Spider-Man: Home Slice and Spider-Man: Phone Home, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have finally confirmed that the title for the upcoming Spidey threequel is Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Clearly Sony Pictures has a theme here, with Spider-Man: No Way Home following in the footsteps of Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home in playing up ‘home’ as part of its title.

In terms of what we know already about No Way Home, Tom Holland will be back in the saddle as ol’ Web-head, with Zendaya’s MJ and Jacob Batalon’s Ned Leeds returning alongside Holland’s Peter Parker. Elsewhere, Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina have been confirmed to be reprising their respective Electro and Doctor Octopus roles, with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange another who will be a part of the action.

The inclusion of the Master of the Mystic Arts in the picture has led to plentiful rumblings that Strange will fully bring the concept of the Multiverse to the fore – which would explain the appearances of the Electro of Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the Doc Ock of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2.

While speculation is rampant that we’ll get to see the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield incarnations of the Wall-crawler fighting the good fight with Holland’s Spidey, there’s yet to be any formal announcement on that front. Similarly, that same speculation has also thrown up potential appearances from Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane Watson, Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy, Paul Giamatti’s Rhino and even Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently scheduled to swing to the silver screen on 17 December 2021.
