Ranking Every WWE Championship Reign Of 2023

Championships are one of the most important aspects of professional wrestling.

Not only do they tell you who the most important stars are, they give the rest of the roster something to fight for. As crazy and bombastic as some wrestling storylines can get, most of them can be drilled down to "challenger wants champion's title".

That, in essence, is what makes them the centrepiece of a company. They're what the pro wrestling world revolves around. However, that doesn't mean they always feel important.

WWE have tried to walk a very delicate tightrope this year with their belts. It's been refreshing to see them really committing to lengthy title-holds with several top stars, but it also opens them up to a whole host of other issues:

"How do you keep a champion fresh"?

And, of course, "What does the rest of our roster fight for if this one guy has the belt?".

2023 has seen some title reigns that have immeasurably raised the stock of the champion and the championship... it's also had some altogether by-the-numbers stuff that you've probably already forgotten about.

Now, this should be specified: this isn't referring to Belair's 400+ day reign as she came into 2023, but her second that lasted all of about 5 minutes.

In all fairness, this was booking 101 in a good way. If you're going to have a cash-in take place, it needs to a heel taking advantage of of beloved babyface at a moment of weakness. Belair had just regained her title in a fairly decent triple-threat match and had it all swept away from her in moments.

It did what it needed to do, creating a fun a moment as most cash-ins tend to do, but it's not fair to even call this a "reign" like the others, so it's really a matter of being thorough that it appears here at all.
