Doctor Who: The Star Beast Review - 9 Ups And 3 Downs

11. UP - A Beautiful New Title Sequence (And Theme)

As quickly as it arrived, the apprehension faded away, as the sting sounds and we’re treated to the most gorgeous title sequence the show has ever had.

Aside from the obvious visual upgrades seen here, the standout element of the new sequence is the use of more cinematic angles throughout, rather than us just chasing the TARDIS down a vortex.

Close up shots of the TARDIS surfing the time vortex like a wave, and bursting out of a cloud in a spray of gold and pink energy are particularly striking visuals, and the whole thing feels like a modernisation of the previous RTD titles.

Thumbs up as well to Murray Gold’s new theme – not his strongest for the show, but still a banger. And on the topic of Gold, it’s wonderful to have him back. It seems that in his time away, he's learnt a little restraint, with a little less bombast this time around.

We spotted those little musical Easter eggs throughout as well.
