Doctor Who: 10 Biggest Mistakes Of The Chris Chibnall Era

9. Too Much Universe-Trotting

One of the brilliant elements of Chibnall's tenure was the variety of gorgeous location filming around the world, especially in Series 11 and Series 12. Sadly though, the globetrotting (or rather, universe-trotting) of the era once again proved that it's possible to have too much of a good thing.

Oftentimes in Series 12 and especially in Flux, we are greeted with a totally new setting, captioned with some yellow text to explain the time period and location. This was even the case in The Power of the Doctor, which featured several titles explaining the various locales.

On occasion, these titles were great and very much needed, but they often showed that the narrative of a given story contained too many strands across too many separate locations, which didn't help to keep people engaged and interested in the episode.

This universe-trotting started to hurt the Chibnall era towards the end, and even became a joke among fans as to how many different locations Chibnall could throw into any given story. That yellow text quickly became a tired and redundant trope we're glad to see the back of.
