15 Most Inappropriate Comics Storylines Of All Time
2. Nightcrawler And The Devil Babies
You have to have some sympathy for Chuck Austen. The writer was brought onto the flagship X-Men title following the incredibly successful and influential reboot by Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely, et al. That's a tough act to follow. Then again, he decided to follow that act by turning the mutant team into a terrible sex comedy - so terrible, in fact, that Austen wrote only one more title after this before disappearing from the comic book world entirely.
It's not a coincidence that this title was a soft-porn manga knock-off. It's also not a coincidence that Austen, who began his career in comics writing straight-up erotica, would cause the X-Men to bomb so hard by turning them into hormone-ridden maniacs. There's always been sexual tension within the team - including the Cyclops/Jean/Emma love triangle of New X-Men - but Austen brought it to the forefront, and also made it super gross.
The Juggernaut bedded She-Hulk, Angel got it on with Husk in mid-air above her parents' house, and in a storyline that is widely regarded as one of the worst in comics history, he unveiled the true origins of teleporting blue fuzzy guy Nightcrawler. The Draco revealed that Kurt Wagner's father was Azazel, one of the Marvel Universe's many analogues for...Satan. And Satan had been impregnating women across Earth for centuries, conspiring to use all his devil babies to somehow take over the planet.
This is a comic book storyline about Satan banging his way to world supremacy. And let's never speak of it again.
