8. Down For The Disco
The show that was lauded by Alex Kurtzman during its run as one that could go on and on and on was given an end date.
And much sooner than many fans would have expected. Following two years in the 23rd Century and two more after relocation to the 32nd, season five looked to be another step forward on the continuing journey.
That was not to be the case. Added to this was the feeling that the decision was made late in the day. Additional shooting was completed to give the series a more definitive ending, rather than the season finale it had originally been.
Offering the first televised Trek since the demise of Enterprise in 2004, Discovery packed story arcs, the return of classic characters, multiple viewpoints on individuality and diversity, and fully embraced bringing the franchise into the modern world.
Its closure after five seasons was certainly a surprise for Trek fandom. Were it not for the success of the show there would have been no Picard, no Strange New Worlds, no upcoming Section 31 long trek, and no future.
