10 Video Games That Are Flawed Masterpieces
9. ZombiU (2012)
ZombiU's poor commercial performance and fairly lukewarm reception not only led to Ubisoft abandoning the Wii U as a platform for exclusive titles but has also gone on to be one of the games people turn to when trying to explain where the system went wrong.
It's certainly true that ZombiU is far from a perfect game. The GamePad was a bit too hit-or-miss with how it was implemented (special shoutout for those screen-tapping minigames), but, what really drew in the criticism was its confusing map designs, slow loading times and glitches.
For players who are able to stomach these things, there's actually so much at play with ZombiU that makes it a fun, and ultimately terrifying, arcade experience. The Zombies in the game are well worth a good scare, the permadeath feature amps up the stakes, and the London settings certainly do their job as a creepy setting.
There's a whole lot of value in the game's multiplayer too, especially through the King of Zombie game mode. It's one of the few portions of the game that actually managed to incorporate the GamePad effectively, and the ability to play as King Boris trumps any experience as a survivor.
There's so much wasted potential with ZombiU, but the dark locations, terrifying zombies and arcade modes still make it one of the best games for a horror house party.
