10 Video Game Sequels That Made You Play The Original Again

9. Max Payne 3

It can't be understated just how much skepticism there was surrounding Max Payne 3, which saw Rockstar Studios take over developing duties from Remedy, largely ditch the series' iconic film noir stylings, and instead set the game in sunny São Paulo.

But to Rockstar's enormous credit, their bold changes to the formula mostly paid off, with Max Payne 3's gritty cinematic storytelling and first-rate bullet time-infused gunplay ensuring it felt like a more-than-worthy entry.

It's a prime example of a game that's both very different to its predecessors and yet excellent in its own unique way. All the same, it undeniably had fans of the series going back to the more overtly noir-indebted original duology.

Whether you prefer the style of the original two games or the sun-splashed heroic bloodshed of number three, it's basically all gravy, and with Remedy currently working on remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2, it's fair to say that a whole new generation of players are about to fall in love with these bonafide classics.
