10 Unsolved Mysteries That May Have Finally Been Solved
9. The Black Knight Satellite
In 1998, from the International Space Station, NASA took this photo which, according to UFO believers, is an age-old alien satellite that has monitored the Earth now for 13,000 years and has been seen periodically throughout history.
A convoluted story - even involving Nikola Tesla apparently discovering the satellite - this photograph tied together hundreds of UFO sightings throughout the 1900s. Several theorists were now convinced that a whole string of UFO related reports and incidents were now in fact what had been dubbed as the Black Knight Satellite.
The truth however, is much simpler to understand and explain. During the process of adding new modules to the International Space Station, a slight accidental mishap triggered decades of discussion and debate. Astronaut Jerry Ross, who was part of the mission, explained that during the attachment of the modules, a thermal cover came loose from its tether and floated away.
Cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev then later snapped the photo of the Earth in which the lost thermal cover can be seen floating away in the distance. The cover then burned up in Earth's atmosphere a few days later and accidentally birthed one of the most famous unsolved mysteries of all time.
