10 TV Storylines Actors REFUSED To Do
9. Davos Crushes On Missandei - Game Of Thrones
Though Game of Thrones' beleaguered cast members ultimately didn't have much say in dictating the direction of the show's underwhelming final season, actor Liam Cunningham - who played fan favourite Ser Davos Seaworth - pushed back hard against one proposed plot for his character.
In the 2020 oral history book "Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon," Cunningham revealed that it was originally intended for Davos to develop romantic feelings for Daenerys Targaryen's (Emilia Clarke) friend and confidante, Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel).
Cunningham flat-out told the show's creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, "I'm not f**king doing it," feeling that beyond the near-three decade age gap between the two actors, it made no sense for Davos to be pining after younger women given the paternal relationship he showed towards several notable young female characters in the series. Cunningham added:
"It's the only thing I ever stood up to them on... The woman is a goddess, but with Davos' history with Lyanna Mormont and Shireen, you can't have him getting the hots for a young woman... I'm not 100 percent sure David wasn't just doing it to annoy me... You're not undoing my hard work engendering the sympathy of the audience to have him be a perv."
Between all this and Davos having a wife and children in Westeros - something the show conveniently forgot in later seasons - it's safe to say that Cunningham was 100% right to veto this icky subplot, which would've just given fans yet another thing to complain about.
