10 Sickest WWE Steel Chair Shots Ever
That's gonna leave a mark for sure!
Here's a relevant anecdote for you: the first ever WWE event I ever saw was the 1999 Royal Rumble. I was 8 years old at the time. Imagine that, an 8 year old kid, totally unaware that pro-wrestling was scripted, watching the 1999 Royal Rumble blind and specifically the I Quit Match between Rock and Foley. The curses, the handcuffs, the electrical circuit board! dive... and those chair shots. 11 chair shots to the head. At the time, I remember not really knowing what to think; perhaps I was a natural skeptic but I don't remember feeling overly concerned for Mick, nor offended or sickened. Perhaps it was because Mick was such a tough SOB, he sold it as best he could without any noticeable signs of the bone-shuddering agony he must have been in. It wasn't until years later, when I saw the Beyond The Mat documentary that the true harrowing nature of that match hit home. It wasn't the stairs or the bell or the ladder or the 10-foot plunge into electricity that did it... it was the chair shots. In recent years, particularly since the Chris Benoit tragedy, WWE has made a stern effort to eradicate chair shots to the head from the product. It's a banned move now, punishable by fine. Triple H & Undertaker received such fines for an unprotected chair shot to the head taken by 'Taker during their match at Wrestlemania 27... and whilst traditionalists of the business might play the toughness card and claim it adds to the product- which it does- the continued push, in recent years, for performer safety, with the Wellness policy, bans and stricter physical testing is one that should be championed. Don't believe me? Then take a look at these; the sickest chair shots in WWE history... then imagine yourself on the receiving end of them and ask whether you'd be grateful for the ban!
