8. The Time(s) Batman Left KGBeast To Die
Ah, the Cold War. In many ways, a simpler time. When your favorite superhero could break his core principle of never taking another human life, with the implication being that it’s okay- he was a commie! Batman, after a prolonged fight, traps KGBeast in a chamber at the bottom of Gotham’s sewers, leaving him there to die.
Yes, it’s true. Though Batman did in fact kill people reasonably often for a hero in the very early days of Detective Comics, this occurred a lot later, when Batman not killing people was more established. Of course, this death was later retconned (very few deaths in comics aren’t), but even if we accept this later attempt to plug holes in the ‘Batman doesn’t kill people' narrative, he still tried to leave a man trapped in a metal chamber indefinitely. Sorry Bruce, but that is at least attempted murder, even in the comics world.
Still, KGBeast got some measure of revenge in his return during Tom Kings run, almost killing Dick Grayson. Funnily enough, later in this arc, after another brawl, Batman leaves an injured KGBeast in the middle of a snowy wasteland, presumably to die, which he of course doesn’t. Batman is suspiciously absent-minded when it comes to the Russian villain!
