10 More Horror Movie Villains Who Actually Won

8. Peter And Paul - Funny Games

Warner Independent Pictures

Funny Games is funny, but not funny haha. Funny disturbing.

Either the 1997 Austrian original or its English language remake from 2007 will suffice when studying this dark and strange home invasion horror from the mind of director Michael Haneke.

A suburban family is taken hostage by two deranged young men who force them to partake in sadistic "games" in exchange for their freedom.

Unfortunately, the adults in the family don't adhere to all of Peter and Paul's rules, and their young son is killed as a result.

Either version of the film is utterly tragic, as you watch the helpless parents grieve for their dead child. A measure of revenge is achieved when the mother kills Peter with a shotgun, but this is quite literally reversed when Paul grabs a TV remote and rewinds the movie itself to before Peter dies.

Told you it was strange.

In the end, the two sadists end up murdering both parents and starting the whole saga again with a new set of victims. Bleak, bizarre, and completely hopeless, you get the feeling that Haneke hasn't even heard the words "happily ever after" in his entire life.
