9. Lord Summerisle - The Wicker Man

We're not talking about the Nic Cage version. There shall be no mention of bees in this entry. End of.

The original 1973 version of The Wicker Man sees strictly religious policeman Neil Howie travel to a remote Scottish island to investigate a missing girl. When he arrives, he finds that the inhabitants have converted to a form of paganism that involves making human sacrifices in return for a bountiful harvest.

Heading up the new religion is Lord Summerisle, played by the tremendously demented Christopher Lee. His family were the first to introduce paganism to the island and Howie suspects that he is the one responsible for the kidnapping of the girl.

It is revealed that the young woman was never the intended sacrifice, but rather Howie was. Despite the cop's pleas that killing him won't save their crops, the villagers do it anyway, burning him alive in a giant wicker statue.

You could argue that Summerisle didn't win, because the crops will fail the next year and he himself will be sacrificed, but let's just focus on the events that transpired within the film and "bee" happy about it.

Damn, so close!
