10 Horror Movie Moments Everyone Was Waiting For (That Never Happened)

We set ourselves up for disappointment.

Although every movie genre has its fair share of tropes, there's no question horror takes the cake when it comes to cliches. Jump-scares. Ancient evil. Dumb characters splitting up. Killers with superstrength. Even if you've only seen a handful of horror flicks, you should be well-acquainted with these overused stereotypes.

However, there's another element that's pretty much universal in the genre - Teases. Horror loves to tantalise its audience, whether it's with a mind-blowing twist, the identity of the killer, or a last-minute reveal. So, when a movie repeatedly badgers the viewers that something big is going to happen, we're hoping for a huge pay-off.

But sometimes, there isn't one. Everyone was expecting Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th V, unaware that he wasn't in the movie. Because the full moon is synonymous with werewolves, many are surprised to learn it never appears in The Wolf Man. Despite the fact Vanderhoe wouldn't shut up about his buzzsaw in Army of the Dead, we never see it in action.

Even though moviegoers enjoy an unexpected turn, it seems like these films didn't just throw us a curveball - they deceived us.

11. No Jason - Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning

Let's be honest - we knew there was nothing final about Friday the 13th IV: The Final Chapter. Considering the follow-up, Friday the 13th V: A New Beginning, premiered less than a year later, it's apparent the filmmakers had no intention of canning this slasher saga.

But what about Jason Voorhees? Last time we saw him, he had a butcher knife rammed into his head before having his skull crushed. How could he return?

Well, it's not like this was the first time Jason's had been killed off, so many suspected he would shake it off before returning in Friday the 13th V. Despite the fact we never see Jason commit the murders until the end, viewers were certain the machete-wielding psychopath was behind it all. And when we saw the killer adorned with his iconic hockey mask in the climax, it seemingly proved Jason was back.

But after he dies, we learn this killer is a copycat, meaning that Jason is still very dead (at least for the time being). Because Jason never appears in A New Beginning, many die-hard fans felt like they were cheated, which is why this instalment is remembered with such disdain.
