10 Horror Films You Didn't Know Were Being Remade

After so many years, Jason is finally returning...

Horror remakes are one of the most constant things in the movie industry. The idea of modernizing an old film is always enticing for producers due to its brand recognition and marketability. Why invent a new idea when you can use existing properties instead? These remakes vary from straight-up adaptations to reimaginings that take the original's concept and spin it in a new direction.

The challenge, therefore, is whether or not these films are good at all, as audiences have seen both happen. For every The Invisible Man (2022) and The Thing (1982), there are stinkers like The Fog (2005) and Psycho (1998). Because of this, horror fans tend to be cautious as the quality of these flicks can often feel like a coin toss.

But for better or worse, these remakes are here to stay, whether we like it or not. It's time, then, to check out some upcoming new versions of classic films that you may not know were in development. Which among them do you think will end up being good and which do you think will end up being a stinker?

10. The Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion is one of the most popular attractions in Disneyland and is known for its chilling atmosphere and special effects. This led to the 2003 movie starring Eddie Murphy though it did not achieve the success of Disney's other theme park-driven adaptation that year, Pirates of the Caribbean.

But the House of Mouse isn't one to back down, which is why there have been other attempts at reviving the property. One known venture was during the 2010s when Guillermo del Toro was attached to direct. Sadly, however, the heavens didn't align and the acclaimed director left the project.

But come 2023, we're finally getting a new version of The Haunted Mansion. The film will be directed by Justin Simien, who is known for Dear White People, and will be written by Katie Dippold. It features an ensemble cast consisting of Rosario Dawson, LaKeith Standfield, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Jared Leto, and Jamie Lee Curtis.

There's a lot riding on this project as the Haunted Mansion attraction has always been a fan favorite. If the movie proves to be a success, this can open the door to more Disneyland-themed pictures and even the return of Pirates of the Caribbean.
