10 Historicals That Show What Modern Doctor Who Is Missing

This is one of the so-called “lost” stories. Not lost as in it was destroyed, but lost as in never actually produced.

This is a story that was initially written for the TV show, but never saw the light of day until Big Finish produced it as an audio drama in 2010. The story is narrated by Carole Ann Ford and William Russell - reprising their roles as Susan and Ian, respectively - and they also play the majority of the other characters, with the exception of Alexander the Great, who is played by John Dorney.

The TARDIS lands in the hanging gardens of Babylon where the First Doctor and his companions (still Ian, Barbara, and Susan) meet Alexander the Great. Barbara - being a history teacher - realizes the terrible implication of meeting Alexander in Babylon. She knows that, within a few days, Alexander is going to die, and the story naturally leads to the Doctor and his companions getting tangled up in a conspiracy against Alexander.

While that is not unusual for a Doctor Who story, this one is more about tragedy than action. It's a story that shows that, despite their best efforts, the Doctor and his companions cannot always change established history.
