9. Dear Prudence - Siouxsie Sioux And The Banshees
Covering The Beatles can be like attempting to reproduce a Picasso to sell to an art gallery; some people can do it, but even then, the repercussions aren't always great.
Thankfully, one group who made a pretty good go of bringing new life to the Fab Four were Siouxsie Sioux and the Banshees.
The post-punk outfit, famous for songs like Hong Kong Garden and Spellbound and for inciting the Sex Pistol's expletive-laden rant against Bill Grundy, released their interpretation of Dear Prudence in 1983.
The original version of the song was including on the Beatles' self-titled 1968 album, better known as The White Album, and was inspired by their interactions in India with Prudence Farrow, sister of actor Mia.
Siouxsie brings a more ethereal quality to the song, full of wishy-washy production and a mystical guitar line that almost out-psychedelics that band behind Tomorrow Never Knows.
Whilst its nearly impossible to better the Beatles, props has to be given to the Banshees for putting their own spin on things and not just going down the karaoke route.
