10 Doctor Who Cameos You Definitely Missed
9. Brian Miller (Deep Breath)
From the father of a Doctor, we move to the husband of a companion.
"Who frowned me this face?" the Twelfth Doctor asks a tramp in his debut story, Deep Breath – a nod to Peter Capaldi’s previous roles in the Whoniverse. But Capaldi isn’t the only familiar face in this scene.
In fact, the tramp's face had also featured in the Whoniverse before: as Dugdale in the Fifth Doctor serial Snakedance, and Harry in the Sarah Jane Adventures story The Mad Woman in the Attic. The actor behind these characters, Brian Miller, also provided Dalek voices for Resurrection and Remembrance of the Daleks.
Miller also has another significant connection to the show. He was the husband of Elisabeth Sladen, who of course played the wonderful Sarah Jane Smith.
A meeting between the Twelfth Doctor and Sarah Jane was, sadly, always off the cards, due to Sladen’s untimely passing in 2011. But by having her widow appear in Twelve's debut story, the production team were at least able to nod to what could have been.
