9. False Profits And The Price
In The Price, the Enterprise-D was sent to negotiate a deal for control of the newly discovered Barzan wormhole that was thought to be a stable passageway to the Gamma Quadrant. Data and Geordi went through the wormhole in a shuttlecraft, along with a Ferengi shuttle, in order to test it.
The two shuttles actually arrived in the Delta Quadrant, and Data and Geordi quickly realised that the wormhole was actually only stable from one end, and that the other end shifted locations every time it opened. They quickly turned around and returned home, but the Ferengi didn't believe their warnings and got stranded in the Delta Quadrant.
Seven years later, Voyager encountered these same two Ferengi, Arridor and Kol, during their journey home. They were horrified to find that Arridor and Kol had used their advanced technology to subjugate an entire pre-warp society, and brainwashed these poor people to worship them as gods under their own hyper-capitalist religion.
In the end, Voyager was able to capture the Ferengi, but they soon escaped aboard their shuttle while being escorted from the transporter room. They ended up accidentally getting pulled into the wormhole and destabilising it so much that both sides started shifting across space. Voyager could've gotten home years sooner if Janeway had just beamed the Ferengi directly to the brig...
