10 Bands That Never Made A Bad Album

8. Bjork

Whenever a band hits it big, it's normally the label's job to try and put them into a specific niche. As much as you might want to do what you want to do, the art of taking risks never really pays all that well, and the people tend to want to hear something similar to what they already like on the radio. Bjork was never one to play that game though, and her entire discography seems to be built on risks.

Even if there are certain similarities between songs here and there, most Bjork projects never sound exactly the same, almost like she's starting over from scratch on every single project. Having already had experience with the Sugarcubes, her introduction on Debut had all the magic already there, from the electronic sounding production to the baroque arrangements of some of the songs. As she made her way through the '90s though, she basically followed wherever her muse took her, like Post including moody soundscapes on Possibly Maybe right next to the jazz pastiche It's Oh So Quiet.

Going into the next decade though, Bjork has remained a student of music, always finding different ways to interpret her art, like singing about the natural world on Biophilia or making an album that's 99% vocals on Medulla. Whereas other bands might want to write stories in their songs, Bjork's music feels like she's trying to create different sonic worlds in your mind that you've never seen before.
